Jan 23, 2018 - There are more variations in the way open-back banjos are made than you might expect. Ome Banjo Tupelo, Mahogany neck, 12' Shell 5 St. Ome Banjo Company, based in Boulder, Colorado, makes some of the highest quality American made banjos and have been doing so since the late 1950's.
$2,600.00I have for sale a 1981 OME Juggernaut 5 string, flathead, Bluegrass banjo. If you are familiar with professional grade banjos, you know that OME makes world class instruments and this one is no exception. It is truly a fine instrument. It is made of maple, with spikes at 7,9,11, it has D tuners on strings 2 and 4, the metal was upgraded to chrome and has a newer Cunningham bridge. It comes with the original hard shell case and case. There is no buckle rash, breaks, dings or repairs.I am the second owner, the first owner received it as a gift in 1981. His mother was an artist and painted the mountain scene inside the resonator and it has no effect on the sound. It came with a clear head, not being a fan of clear heads, I replaced it with the frosted head you see in the photos. I still have the clear head, if the new owner would like it.You can check OME's website and you will find a new Juggernaut like this, will cost you in excess of $5,000.
This one is nearby and has had over 3 decades for the wood to get its voice. It is a wonderful instrument in all ways, loud, clear and deep sound.I would like to sell this banjo, but I don't have to, so no low ball offers.Feel free to ask questions or for additional pictures if needed. Also SPAMMERS.I only deal face to face, cash only, no ship captains and no agents.
The Ome Tupelo has a very authentic old time banjo tone with a very woody tone. It features a shorter 25.5” scale, wider 1.34” nut width, and 17 fret S-scoped fingerboard. The 2-ply solid maple rim is 9/16” thick and is capped with black ebonite and bound with simulated tortoise shell.
The Ome 12” maple Tone Rim construction combined with less brackets and wood rim-rod produce Ome's “woodiest” old time banjo tone. The Tupelo is made with the same care and precision as other Ome instruments and comes complete with their deluxe hardshell case and Limited Lifetime Warranty.
